Equipment

  • 1 Large Saucepan

Ingredients

  • 500 ml red grape juice (acts as the base, mimicking red wine)
  • 500 ml apple juice (adds natural sweetness and depth)
  • 1 orange (sliced, plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • 500 ml water (to balance the richness)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Base
Combine the grape juice, apple juice, and water in a large saucepan. Add the orange slices, cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and ginger (if using).
  • Simmer the Mixture
Heat the mixture over medium heat until it begins to steam, but do not let it boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 20–30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Sweeten to Taste
Taste the mulled wine and add honey or brown sugar if desired. Stir until fully dissolved.
  • Strain and Serve
Use a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and orange slices. Ladle the mulled wine into heatproof glasses or mugs.
  • Garnish and Enjoy
Garnish with a slice of fresh orange or a cinnamon stick for an extra festive touch. Serve warm and enjoy.
